Press ReleaseAttune Systems Vice President of Engineering to Present on File Virtualization at the Virtualization Conference and Expo Thomas Wong to Speak on the Future of File Virtualization at the SOA World Conference and Expo Virtualization Forum Santa Clara, Calif. – November 7, 2007 – Attune Systems, Inc., a provider of enterprise-class file virtualization solutions, today announced that Thomas Wong, the company’s vice president of engineering and a well-known virtualization expert, is a featured speaker at the Virtualization Conference and Expo, taking place on November 12-13, 2007 at the Grand Hyatt in San Francisco, Calif. The Attune session called “Riding the Wave of Virtualization: Is File Virtualization the Next Great Wave?” will be presented by Thomas Wong on November 12 at 2:30-3:15 p.m., as part of the Current Directions track. The session will define and present the elements of file virtualization, as well as its similarity and differences from server virtualization. It will include different approaches to achieve file virtualization, and the pros and cons associated with these approaches. Wong will also explain how file virtualization is being used as a solution to storage management challenges. Drawing on his unique experience of having successfully implemented both Linux and Windows-based file virtualization appliances, Wong will share his vision for the future of file virtualization, as it expands from the data center to the edges of customer networks, and, eventually to the laptops of the mobile users. At the end of the session, attendees should be able to judge whether file virtualization is, indeed, the next great wave. Wong came to Attune from NeoPath Networks, which he co-founded. At NeoPath, he was vice president of engineering from concept through on-time market delivery of the first two general-availability product launches. Wong has an impressive high-tech track record with companies such as Ingrian Systems, Healtheon/WebMD, Sun Microsystems and Wang Laboratories. He has 19 issued patents along with 10 published pending patents, and is also the author of the European and International Standards on recordable compact disc file systems format (ECMA 168 and ISO/IESC 13490). The Windows-based file virtualization solution from Attune Systems is composed on off-the-shelf hardware and seven core technologies that deliver its leading-edge file virtualization capabilities: Maestro Policy IQ™, Dual Path Access™, Adaptable Mirroring™, Volume Sets™, Dynamic Volume Expansion™, Small File Acceleration™, and Remote Scripting Engine™. The Attune file virtualization natively supports and leverages numerous other Microsoft technologies such as Common Internet File System (CIFS), Server Message Blocks (SMB), Microsoft Cluster Server, Microsoft Active Directory, Volume Shadow Copy Service (VSS), Opportunistic Locking (OpLocks), and Microsoft Domain Controller. About Attune SystemsAttune Systems solutions reduce file management complexity for enterprise, government, and education storage environments while slashing operating costs and increasing scalability. The company’s flagship product, the Maestro File Manager, is a file virtualization appliance that helps IT administrators discover, analyze, manage, and optimize their existing, heterogeneous file storage resources without impacting end users. File virtualization is the low-risk, high-impact first step towards implementing an effective File Area Network (FAN).
