Attune Systems Announces Microsoft Premier Oem Partnership

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Aug. 15, 2006 – Attune Systems, Inc., a provider of enterprise-class Network File Management (NFM) solutions, today announced that it has become a Microsoft OEM partner. This new OEM service agreement complements Attune’s existing Microsoft registered partner status by providing enhanced integration and collaboration between the companies. The new agreement allows Attune to offer a better file virtualization solution for Windows and Windows Storage Server environments.

“We’re happy to introduce Attune as a partner not only because their file virtualization solution provides robust functionality for Windows environments, but also because Attune is leveraging numerous existing Microsoft technologies,” said Dr. Claude Lorenson, group product manager for storage, Windows Server Division at Microsoft Corp. “The solution is beneficial to virtually any Windows server environment with more than five terabytes of unstructured file data.”

“This partnership provides much more than support,” said Daniel Liddle, vice president of marketing at Attune Systems. “It provides invaluable insight and connections within Microsoft. Unlike our competitors who are based upon Linux shells, our Windows operating system foundation gives us native SMB and CIFS support for superior interoperability, stability and functionality. It also ensures that we’re compatible with current and future functionality that is introduced as part of Microsoft’s roadmap. Building our solutions upon the Windows platform complements our strategy of using off-the-shelf hardware as the basis for our NFM appliance, in the spirit of the Universal, Distributed storage vision of Microsoft.”

Universal Distributed Storage is Microsoft’s commitment to mainstreaming high-end storage functionality and delivering storage solutions that are built on industry-standard hardware offered via a multitude of partners and lower total cost of ownership. Microsoft is working to ensure that Windows manages distributed data storage more cost-effectively than any other platform, irrespective of where the data is – on a server or remote worker’s desktop, centralized or spread across branch offices, on Storage Area Networks (SANs) or Network Attached Storage (NAS).

The agreement enables increased collaboration between the companies, helping Attune offer its customers a more robust, scalable and highly reliable Windows-based NAS virtualization solution. Maestro File Manager gives system administrators the ability to gradually deploy the latest NAS virtualization solutions and provide global namespace across their existing, heterogeneous file storage infrastructures, thereby reducing cost and simplifying management without disrupting user activities. Maestro supports three concurrent operational stages: out-of-band discovery, native mode and extended mode. It also includes detailed resource discovery, alerts, reporting and proactive intervention to avoid disruption and maintain business continuity.
